William Roy Staton, known to many as Bill, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 31, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 76. Born on January 6, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, Bill lived a life defined by kindness, friendship, and devotion to his family. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Bill was a graduate of The Ohio State University and enjoyed a long and rewarding career in logistics, earning the respect of colleagues and friends through his integrity, work ethic, and unwavering willingness to help others. He was a passionate supporter of The Ohio State football program and an avid golfer. As a young man, he enjoyed caddying at Lakewood Country Club and playing basketball and football at Avon High School in Ohio.

After graduating, he married Kathy, had two sons, and moved to Athens, Georgia, where he spent 18 years coaching their teams and leading them in The Order of DeMolay. Later in life, he and Kathy moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2017 to be closer to their four beloved grandchildren. Bill treasured every moment spent with them, whether cheering them on from the sidelines, watching them perform, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company.

A dedicated member of the Masonic community, Bill was a Master Mason, serving as a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and 3rd degree York Rite Mason at the Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 22 in Athens, Georgia, and later transferring to the West Nashville Phoenix Lodge No. 31. He valued fellowship, service, and the lifelong friendships he built through his involvement.

Known for his generous spirit and welcoming nature, Bill never met a stranger. His favorite piece of advice to his sons was, "Kill 'em with kindness," a philosophy he practiced every day of his life. Anyone fortunate enough to know him was considered a friend, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or share a laugh. His kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Kathleen Staton; his sons, Eric William Staton (Jessica) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Daniel Patrick Staton (Rachel) of Charlotte, North Carolina; his brother, Robert Staton (Kammy) of Prospect, Ohio; and his cherished grandchildren, Jemma, Sylvia, Lilian, and William. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Guyer Staton, and his mother, Clara Melissia Staton.

Bill's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the friendships he cultivated so effortlessly, and the countless lives he touched with his compassion and generosity. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
