William Kan passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the age of 80. Born abroad, he immigrated to the United States at 18, determined to pursue an education and a better life. His academic journey began in Rolla, Missouri, where he laid the foundation for a remarkable career in science and medicine. He went on to earn degrees in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, followed by a Master's in Radiological Physics. He also completed all but his thesis toward a Ph.D. in Radiological Science, a testament to his lifelong passion for learning.

For over three decades, William dedicated his life to serving as a radiological physicist. He was deeply committed to his work, especially in the treatment of cancer patients. Helping them heal, and witnessing their recoveries, brought him profound fulfillment. He was the holder of three patents for a groundbreaking radioactive seed implant device designed to target prostate cancer more precisely. This reduced unnecessary exposure and improved patient outcomes. His work was not just a profession; it was a calling.

Outside of his professional achievements, William was a man of many talents and endless curiosity. He was a true outdoorsman and a "jack of all trades," never shying away from a new challenge, whether it was roofing, plumbing, or fixing just about anything. He found joy in nature and in motion. Running, hiking, camping, kayaking, swimming, skiing, ice skating, biking, and playing tennis were among his many passions.

In 2010, William's life was forever changed by a bicycle accident that left him a quadriplegic. Yet his resilience and determination remained unshaken. He approached his new reality with the same determination that had defined his entire life. He continually strived to defy the odds and regain mobility.

William was married for 53 years to his beloved wife, Claudia. He is survived by Claudia and their three children: Tami (Tony) Harris, Kendra (Josh) White, and Adam (Tori) Kan. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to five grandchildren—Connor, Rory, Archer, Jake, and Aria—who brought light and joy to his days. He is also survived by two sisters, a younger brother, and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Brentwood First Presbyterian Church in Brentwood (1301 Franklin Rd, Brentwood TN).
