Obituary

Valerie Jean Mack passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the age of 71, in Clarksville, Tennessee.

She was born on July 6, 1954, in Portland, Maine, and attended Gorham Schools, graduating in 1973. Maine held a special place in her heart. From long days at the beach to open motorcycle rides and living life as a free-spirited tomboy.

Valerie was deeply creative and expressive. She loved gardening, painting, and crafting, always finding comfort in creating something beautiful with her hands. Her creativity reflected a gentle spirit and a thoughtful heart.

She was the mother of Jayme Jean Gaston, Jeffrey James Mack, and Jennifer Anne Mack. She was also a proud grandmother to Tiarra Jean Brooks, Trevaughn Lee Brooks, Annabella Noelle Masters, and Rosario Emily Mack, all of whom brought her great joy.

Valerie was one of six children. She is survived by her siblings: W. Stephen Allen (Christine), Harvey E. "Pete" Sawyer (Kathi), Jeffrey T. Sawyer, Kimberly S. Dore, and David E. Sawyer (Deborah). She was also an aunt to her cherished nieces and nephews: Michael Allen, Joe Allen, Ashlee Maxfield, Emery Sawyer, Jenna Wylie, Adam Sawyer, Hillary Sawyer, Duncan Sawyer, Justin Dore, Troy Dore, Tim Sawyer, Eric Sawyer, Kayla Sawyer, and Nicole Sawyer, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beverly Anne Sawyer and Harvey Eugene Sawyer of Gorham, Maine.

Valerie lived life on her own terms and chose her own path, which was not always an easy one. Her life was marked by complexity, yet she remained someone who continually searched for peace, understanding, and belonging. Through every season, she carried both strength and tenderness in her own quiet way.

She will be remembered for her creativity, her individuality, and the gentle parts of her heart that many came to know. She will be missed by those who knew her and shared in her journey.

We hope she has now found the peace she sought, and we wish her rest, calm, love, and light beyond this life.
