Ronald Greenfield , 87, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, at his home after a lengthy illness.

A Nashville native, Ron attended Hillsboro High School, Tulane University, and Vanderbilt University. He worked in his family's dry goods business, Greenfield's, before building a long career in the mortgage business and commercial real estate, eventually opening his own firm in Nashville.

Ron was a strong supporter of education, serving on the Board of Trustees at University School of Nashville, encouraging learning within his own family, and emphasizing the value of being a lifelong learner. He was active in community organizations that supported liberal causes and stayed closely connected to his Nashville roots. Always friendly, intelligent, and wise, he made a lasting impact on those around him.

A devoted fan of Vanderbilt baseball, Ron held season tickets for many years and attended the College World Series in 2014 and 2019 with his son Jeff, celebrating both national championships in person.

He loved writing short stories, had a quick wit, and was deeply involved in his grandchildren's lives, attending countless recitals, plays, and ballgames.

Ron was first married to Gail Goodman, with whom he had two children, Jill and Jeff. He later married Carrin Greenfield, with whom he shared his son, Adam. Ron spent the last 25 years with his wife, Merry Bern, who survives him with her children, Marc and Jennifer. He is also survived by his children, Jill Greenfield of Smyrna, Jeff Greenfield (Carolyn) of Nashville, and Adam Greenfield of Reno, Nevada; his brother, Alfred Greenfield (Tonya) of Phoenix, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Hot Papa." He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Rose Greenfield.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him and experiencing his unwavering love. His was a life well lived. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
