Obituary

Robert Edward "Stretch" Powell April 23, 1962 – October 17, 2025

Robert Edward "Stretch" Powell, 63, of Hereford, Arizona, passed away on October 17, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on April 23, 1962, on Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, to Junior and Marianna Powell.

Robert was a master welder for more than 40 years, known for his skill, craftsmanship, and dedication to every project he took on. Over the years, he also worked as an electrician, contractor, and auto mechanic, and spent time as a civilian contractor on military bases across the country. Early in life, he worked in a boys' home, showing the same compassion and patience that would mark his whole life.

Beyond his trade, Robert was a man of deep faith and service. He served as a Deacon in many churches throughout his life, sharing his love for the Lord in countless ways—teaching Sunday school, leading Vacation Bible School, mentoring youth, helping widows, running church security, and volunteering wherever he was needed. His favorite Bible verse was John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Robert loved the outdoors and spent many happy days hiking with his late wife, Susan Nichols-Powell, and their dogs. He also cherished time with his family, passing down his fondness for classic westerns—especially anything starring John Wayne—to his daughters, whether they liked it or not. Known for his warm heart and easy smile, Robert never met a stranger. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Genna Powell-King (Jason) and Tanya Sebring (Tony); grandchildren Jennifer, James, Dominic, and Ophelia; siblings Helen Christian, Charles Powell, and Rebecca Merkle; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; his parents, Junior and Marianna Powell; and his sister, Paula Kolas.

A memorial service will be held on November 15th, 2025 at 2:30pm at Heritage Baptist Church, 5100 Parliament Dr., 76017 Arlington, TX.

Robert's faith, generosity, and love for others will continue to inspire all who knew him
