Obituary

Richard Womack Scobey, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025. He was a man of warmth and humor whose presence touched all who knew him.

Richard is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Scobey, nephew, Andrew Putman, and parents, Richard Womack Scobey, Sr. and Alyce Terry Scobey. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy W. Scobey; his loving children, Daniel Scobey (Erin) and Kara Edwards (Michael); stepchildren Amelie Smith, Caroline Smith, and Peter Smith, and his cherished grandchildren, Archer and Emerson Scobey and Madison Edwards. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Lynda Scobey Stone (Jack) and Suzan Scobey Putman, as well as nieces and nephew, Kristi Green (David), Alyssa Burns (Jason), Benjamin Cowan (Brittni), and Courtney Gray (Kris).

Born in Bowie, Maryland, Richard graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Agricultural Economics. He began his career working for the Internal Revenue Service. He later moved to Nashville and worked for Bellsouth Mobility.

A man of integrity and a skilled craftsman, he loved woodworking, automotive restoration, and even won a race at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.  A lover of music and guitar player himself, Richard's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at the Franklin First United Methodist Church on March 22, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tennessee Children's Home, or a charity of your choice in his honor.
