Ray G. Wilson, 76, formerly of Canton, NY, passed on January 8, 2026. As the son of a U.S. Army Brigadier General, he spent his childhood living in Germany and central NY. Ray graduated from The Manlius School in Manlius, NY, and later earned his degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Ray served his country as a major in the U.S. Army, then later in the Army Reserves. He retired from Rose & Kiernan Insurance Agency.
Ray enjoyed fly fishing, archery, golf, and driving his Mazda Miata. He had a special affection for all dogs and was loved by them in return, especially his basset hounds. Ray also found great joy in volunteering at Life.Church Hendersonville, TN, as he shared his love of Jesus with others.
Ray was known as a man of unwavering character and selfless generosity, living by his motto of "Leave it better than you find it."
He is survived by his son Peter (Haley) Wilson and beloved granddaughter Isla. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Christy (Bartholomew) Wilson; his brother James "Bud" Wilson; his sisters Patricia Miner and Susan Smith; and his parents Brigadier General James K. Wilson, Jr. and Lena (Simpson) Wilson.
A memorial service will not be held. Those wishing to honor Ray's memory may make a donation to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America .
