Preston Charles Johnson, 22, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Friday, October 25th and is missed dearly by family, fellow 332nd Army Reserve soldiers, Murfreesboro Mission BBQ co-workers, and a multitude of faithful friends.

Preston is remembered for being a young man who was driven to care for others.  Those close to him have noted how he cared, listened intently and took things deeply.  One friend stated that Preston was a once in a lifetime friend who always gave his all.  Several of the 332nd Medical Brigade soldiers and officers remarked that Preston demonstrated a level of excellence in his work and a drive for caring for others that set him apart from many.  At his unit's last Advanced Training they spent 3 weeks in Wisconsin.  The Medical Brigade's Commanding Officer stated that Preston was one of two soldiers to receive a Coin of Excellence for that drill and more than one Sergeant remarked that Preston went above and beyond what was expected of him on several occasions. One even stated that Preston would be his first-choice of a 68 Whiskey Combat Medic if he had to take soldiers into battle because he had no doubt that Preston would run into a fight to save fellow soldiers without giving it a second thought.

Preston's family treasures these stories and knows that they reveal the true nature of their Son, Brother, Nephew, and Cousin.  We believe that God has and will continue to let him know how deeply admired, loved and missed Preston is.  Preston's final gift to this world was to offer life to others through organ donation.  He was registered as an organ donor @ https://donatelifetn.org and if you are wondering how you can bless him, his family, and potentially others please consider doing the same.  This has encouraged other friends and family members to register.  As far as we know, someone locally received a new heart and another local person was given a new liver; a soldier or soldier's family member at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center received a new kidney and one other person in Memphis, TN received Preston's other kidney.  Please join us in prayer for these donor recipients, that they may lead long and healthy lives.

Though our sorrow is deep we know that Preston's gifts of life may have given some or all of the above another Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We will miss our Sonshine and there will be a hole throughout all of our lives, but it isn't an eternity sized hole.  One day there will be a sweet reunion and Dad (David Johnson) will be the first in line for a massive bear hug that Preston is known for giving.
