Obituary

Maurice Stephen Powers passed on peacefully into eternity on November 5th, 2024 at the age of 74. Steve fought hard and bravely for 6-months against a rare and aggressive cancer. He never complained.

He was born and raised in Madison, TN where he spent the majority of his life in both residence and employment at Peterbilt Motors. Steve was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a Maplewood High School Graduate - Class of 1968. He was a Freemason - Masonic Lodge #762 Madison, TN. And Steve was a decades long member of United Auto Workers Local 1832 where he never once crossed many a picket line. Later in life, Steve took up residence in Mt Juliet, TN, and he retired from Peterbilt in 2009 after 37 years as a machinist and inspector/test driver.

Steve loved horses, a passion that spanned his entire life. Also an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting deer and raccoons for many years. Dogs were commonly found by his side both at home and on the trail. He loved to travel. In his younger days he enjoyed deep sea fishing and SCUBA diving. Steve was an avid collector of guns and knives. He enjoyed building and creating. And he liked to share these things with friends and family.

Steve was a dedicated son, caring for his parents until they were nearly 90 years of age. He frequently described his mother as "the light of our home." He was quick to help a neighbor or a stranger. Small repairs and odd jobs, a ride somewhere, or maybe just a couple bucks were common friendly gestures. "We never know what shape we'll be in before we leave this ole world."

Steve is survived by his daughter Stephanie Forsythe, son Stephen Powers (Sarah); grandchildren Chandra Bonet, Lexi Forsythe, Nick Forsythe, and Sam Powers; great-grandchildren Bentley Ledsinger and Brody Bonet. He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Margaret Powers of Madison, TN.

There will be a celebration of life with food and fellowship at Madison Church of Christ on Saturday, November 23rd from 1pm - 4pm (106 Gallatin Pike N, Madison, TN 37115). Interment will take place at Mt Juliet Memorial Gardens 654 W Division St, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122) on Saturday, November 30th  at 10am. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort would be appreciated. https://www.disasterreliefeffort.org/about
