It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Edward Barnett on January 16, 2025, at the age of 81.

Mark was born on June 23, 1943, to Oma (Mailloux) and Louis Barnett in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1969, Mark met Norma Robinson in Lexington, KY. They married in 1970 and were together for 54 wonderful years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and Pop.

Mark spent his life doing what he loved—flying helicopters and airplanes. His passion for aviation led to a fulfilling career with UPS, where he retired after many years of service. Throughout his career, Mark was fortunate to travel the world, experiencing new places and cultures, all while doing what he was most passionate about. His travels not only deepened his love for aviation but also helped him become fluent in three languages. Known as 'Cappy' for his role as a captain and 'Pitbull' for his unwavering confidence and ability to take charge, Mark earned the respect of everyone around him.

In addition to his passion for aviation, Mark had many other interests. He was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, an achievement that reflected his dedication and character. Mark found joy in the sound of trains, the tranquility of watching waves from a boat, and the simple pleasure of scanning the sky for airplanes. He had a natural ability to connect with people and would strike up a conversation with anyone he encountered. His zest for life, boundless curiosity, and sense of adventure were evident in everything he did.

Mark's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues, who will remember him for his kind spirit, adventurous soul, and love for the skies.

He was predeceased by his parents, Oma and Louis Barnett; his brothers, Walker Barnett and Robert Barnett; and his son, Brian Barnett. He is survived by his wife, Norma Barnett; daughter, Becki Knellinger and husband Mark; grandchildren, Katy Moyes and husband Grayson, Zach Knellinger, Timothy Knellinger; and great-grandson, Madden Moyes.

A celebration of his life will be held on February 15, 2025, at 2:30 PM, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America(www.dementiasociety.org) or AOPA, which offers scholarships for flight training (www.aopa.org).
