Gurney Simpson Cribbs was born on July 22, 1958, and passed away on July 7, 2026 after a prolonged illness.
Gurney Simpson Cribbs was a beloved member of our family. He was the son of Milton Clark and Margery Clark, both who predeceased him. In 2009, he married Martha S. Cribbs, and together they raised a son, Ethan Cribbs (11 Years old) Gurney also had godchildren named Ayana and Jabez.
Gurney's siblings include Milton Clark, Jr. (Yolanda), Angel Clark, Joy Clark (who predeceased), Arthur Riley (who predeceased), Wendy Hazel, and Marlene Large.
Gurney grew up in Morgan Park in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1976. He later pursued a career as a bus driver and obtained a commercial drivers license. In 1990 he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to care for his mother.
In his free time, Gurney enjoyed various hobbies, including fishing, cooking and grilling, playing the bass guitar, and bongos. He also had a passion for music.
Gurney was a member of Cornerstone Church, where he was baptized. His favorite gospel song was Kirk Franklin's "Stomp."
Even though had a quiet demeanor he had a great sense of humor. Gurney loved a good joke, especially one that he told. He was a devoted family man and a fighter until the very end.
Gurney leaves to mourn his cousins, too many to list all of them, but the ones closest to him are the following: Mary Frances Freeman, Walter (Chiquita) Freeman, April Howard, Adolph Peavy (Teresa) Henry Clark (Brenda), Tamara Clark, Rachelle Large, and a Godmother, Brenda Rowland. He was especially fond of his late Aunt Ida Bell Clark. In addition, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
