Obituary

Dorothy Mae (Gordon) Stratton, 79, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on June 13, 2026, in Lebanon, Tennessee. Born on January 21, 1947, in Ravenna, Ohio, to William and Alma Gordon, Dorothy had fond memories growing up on Brady Lake in Ohio before her family moved to Kent. She attended Kent State University, where she married and was blessed with two daughters.

Dorothy raised her daughters in Mentor, creating a warm and loving home filled with cherished memories. She remained in Mentor until 2021 and then split her time living with each of her daughters and their families between Tennessee and New Jersey, where she was surrounded by love and care.

She dedicated more than 30 years of her career as a bakery manager at TOPS supermarket (formerly Pick-n-Pay and Finast). Even in retirement, she continued working part-time at McDonald's, as she truly enjoyed staying busy and connecting with others. Dorothy was an incredible cook, known for her famous chicken paprikash and potato salad, and a beloved baker for her custom-made birthday cakes, especially for her grandchildren. She was known for sharing her specialty cakes and desserts often with friends, neighbors, and coworkers.

She had a deep affection for all animals, especially dogs, with many boxers and rescues lucky enough to receive her love and affection over the years. Dorothy also enjoyed creative and do-it-yourself projects around the house. Above all, Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She was kind, thoughtful, caring, and forgiving—always seeing the good in others. She was a true gem who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her family is comforted knowing that she's now at peace, smiling, laughing, and spending time with her loved ones, including her beloved pets. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert, and sister, Marilyn. She is survived by her loving daughters, Melissa (Marc) Halpin, and Shannon (Pat) Domonkos; and her seven cherished grandchildren, Kailie (Thorben), Nick, Griffin, Logan, Matthew, Zachary, and Jadeyn.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Garfield Memorial Church, 3650 Lander Road, Cleveland, Ohio at 11 a.m., with a lunch reception to follow.
