Billy Houston Goodman was born in Nashville and grew up in Madison, Tennessee, attending Madison High School.

He was a member of Tennessee Army National Guard from '62 to 65'. Then joined the Tennessee Air National Guard from '67 to '71.

Billy was an 'auto-parts man' most of his life and worked at several Nashville auto parts stores before his death, including Tennessee Speed Sport, as manager, back in its 'heyday' with him going to all the area racetracks and sponsoring many of the racers in the Nashville area.

He was a mechanic and worked on many friends and family's cars in his spare time.  He was an Auto Mechanics teacher at Hendersonville High School in 1979-80.

He learned to work on computers and enjoyed fixing them for friends and family members. If you took your computer to Billy, you knew he'd fix it right.

His last job before retirement was with Advanced Concrete, building concrete machines and making them run right.

After retirement, Billy and his wife, Nancy, decided to get into the movie and television business as 'background actors' through 'On Location Casting' and worked for six years on the 'Nashville' television show, two years on the Billy Ray Cyrus show, and as part of the core group of eight background actors on the movie 'All Saints'. Billy and Nancy also appeared in the Sharon Wilharm movie 'Summer of 67' and were featured in the 'Nashville' episode of the Aziz Ansari show. Billy was featured in the Cadillac Three music video of 'Party Like You'. Plus, background acting in many other shows, too many to mention.

Billy had a large family with 6 siblings, and they all stayed close by visiting with each other. Billy and Nancy hosted many Goodman reunions at Moss Wright Park in Goodlettsville Tennessee over the years, gathering many of the 55 first cousins of his father, Aubrey Douglas Goodman, to become acquainted with.

Billy spent a lot of time on area lakes, fishing and boating with his son, Billy, his brothers in law, Tommy Bigham and Paul Taylor or one of his friends, Troy Payne.

Billy had many friends throughout his 84 plus years. He had two sons, one daughter and five grandchildren. He never met a stranger.

He and Nancy married in Hendersonville in 1964 and later made their home in Hendersonville for about 52 years of their 61 years of married life.

Billy wanted to be cremated and no funeral service.

Chris Goodman wrote: Billy Houston Goodman was known amongst his family and his friends as the individual who always helped every single person without question. Billy didn't care about money. He cared about being there for his family and supporting everyone in his reach, including his sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren. His acts of generosity and kindness also stood out in the Nashville drag and round track racing scene. Billy made many friends and helped with high performance parts on the NASCAR and other racing circuits. He also was a guy who could take his 1971 Plymouth Duster to the absolute limits. He was a racer at heart. But our hearts raced at the thought of one day losing him.

Beyond that, Billy also helped build engines and repair vehicles for friends at zero cost just because he always thought it was the absolute "right" thing to do. He was an avid lover of cars, people, and sports.

His love of his family went well beyond and much deeper than that. He worked endless hours to provide for his three very appreciative children and amazing wife. Billy left early for work and came home late for much of his career selling automotive parts. But he never asked for one single thing for himself.

He was always there for questions from his family and always wanted to make sure his wife of 61 years was taken care of. In his late years, Billy helped his wife rehab and overcome amazing obstacles because of his enduring love and loyalty to the one woman he always loved.

He was also a veteran. An amazing man who served our country, willingly. And a man who served others out of kindness. We are so thankful for his generosity and love.

Billy Lynn Goodman wrote on June 6, 2025: If there is one thing everyone could learn from my father, it's how to treat other people. He was always nice to everyone and doing stuff for others. He did not have a lot of money but had the skills to do things like work on people's vehicles to save them money, which I have seen him do many times. Always willing to help however he could.

Billy is preceded in death by parents, Aubrey Douglas Goodman, Sr. and Ruby Lee Colgate Goodman, sisters and brothers: Betty Ray Allen (Ron), Peggy Ann Taylor (Paul), Aubrey Douglas Goodman, Jr. (Sandy), Judy Carolyn Bass (Jack), Jerry Delbert Goodman (Beverly).

Survived by wife, Nancy Phillips Goodman, and 3 children, Billy Lynn Goodman, Lebanon, Tn; Susan Goodman Schneider (Jody), Nashville, TN, and Chris Goodman (Jenny) of Denver, Colorado, and five grandchildren, by sister Diane Goodman Bigham (Tommy) of Hendersonville, TN and numerous nephews and nieces, and 6 sisters-in-law.
