Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Matheney Tayes, born on March 7, 1939 in Monterey , Tennessee and passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025. She was the daughter of the late James Faulkner Matheney and Pauline Way Matheney Timmons. She was a loyal member of the Church of Christ in Milton, Florida, before relocating to Nashville, Tennessee. Bobbie was known for her artistic talent, her love for working in her flower garden, and her passion for music. She was devoted to and took extraordinary care of her son, Jerry.
Bobbie was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Jerell D. Tayes; her sisters, Sue Billie Matheney Lenox and Betty Ruth Rea; and her granddaughter, Tabitha Tayes.
She leaves behind her children: Sheryl Murray of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; Rhonda Woolbright (Paul) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Eugene Tayes (Denise) of Joelton, Tennessee; Jerry Tayes of Milton, Florida; and Kevin "Sonny" Rhinearson of Paducah, Kentucky.
Bobbie is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Tayes, Tiffany Wayman, Adam Murray (Karen), Joshua Woolbright (Cassidy), Brandon Woolbright and Eric Tayes. She had eleven great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews and her sister, Dottie (Doris) Maugherman of Myakka City, Florida.
Additionally she leaves behind Sheila Barnard, a cherished family friend who helped take care of her.
The family will hold a small celebration of life at a date to be determined. A graveside service will be held in Milton, Florida, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband; date to be determined. Please contact her daughters Sheryl or Rhonda for details.
